Dress Production Tutorial

I. Style Analysis

Before making the garment, we shall carry out a fundamental style analysis.
The skirt features prominent wide box pleats. During production, pleats need to be pressed into shape. The waistband section also requires folding layout to clearly display the stitch lines. When attaching components, check whether collision settings are enabled for the parts, and adjust each component to its proper position accordingly.

II. Pattern Placement

Pattern pieces are arranged around the avatar during placement. For the fan-shaped skirt panels, you can set the spacing value to the maximum to spread the panels open wider. Alternatively, you may move the pattern pieces directly to the front or back of the avatar and fine-tune their positions afterward.
First neatly lay out the main skirt panels excluding the waistband and belt loops to facilitate subsequent sewing work.
Position the three belt loops respectively at the center back of the waist and roughly above the pleats on the front skirt panels.
Place the waistband underneath the belt loops and adjust its position to prevent clipping with the skirt waist.

III. Sewing Pattern Pieces

When sewing, ensure all stitching lines follow a consistent direction and run parallel without overlapping in the 3D viewport.
Stitching also needs to be applied to the pleated sections of the skirt.

Use the free sewing tool to attach the belt loops . Move your mouse along the seam line to select appropriate positions for stitching; the sewing positions are roughly shown in the picture.

IV. Pattern Simulation

Before starting the simulation, harden all pattern pieces first. This facilitates subsequent adjustments of the panels and prevents the pieces from shifting randomly during the sewing simulation.
Main Body Simulation
Turn off skirt simulation, and the fabric will drape naturally. The pre-sewn pleats form the foundational box pleat silhouette.
Place the waistband beneath the belt loops. Run the simulation after sewing the belt loops, which creates the visual effect of the waistband threading through the belt loops.

V. Detail Refinement

1)Lining

To boost fabric thickness and three-dimensional sense, lining can be added to the fabric.
First select the fabric that requires lining, right-click and choose Generate Lining. You may create the lining on the inner or outer side of the main fabric as needed. After generation, an identical piece of fabric will overlay the inner or outer surface of the original fabric. Run the simulation, and the two fabric layers will be sewn together.
Gently pull the waistband into an overlapping shape, then use pins to temporarily secure it into the basic form.

2)Line folding

Adjust the folding degree of the lines in the waistband to form the sewing thread strip of the waistband depression.

3)Applying Interfacing

Select the pattern pieces that need interfacing. Enable the interfacing option in the property editing window at the lower right corner. Interfacing stiffens the fabric and helps it hold its shape well.

4)Adding Accessories

Click the bow icon button on the right side, then open the accessories panel in the upper right corner.
You may also import accessories from the resource library.
Drag the accessories to the proper position, and toggle the collision setting on or off according to your

5)Fabric and Topstitching

After importing the fabric, re-run the fabric simulation. Since the physical parameters of the imported fabric differ from those of the default fabric, the garment shape will change accordingly after simulation.
Add topstitching as required. You can adjust the style and seam allowance of the topstitching within the property editing panel.

6) Shape Adjustment

Due to the firm texture of the fabric, sharp pointed corners will form at the stitched darts on the back of the skirt after sewing.
Select the shaping brush from the Start toolbar. Adjust the parameters first, then click and brush across the fabric areas requiring modification; the fabric surface will become smoother.
When the pattern pieces are symmetrical, you can click the button shown below. It enables synchronous adjustment on both the left and right sides while pulling the symmetrical fabric. This button is displayed at the bottom of the 3D viewport during simulation.
Use pins to help adjust the silhouette while editing.
